Tuesday, February 20, 2001 A desperate Henry goes to a desperate Katie for help, and
Simon gets suspicious. Katie and Simon are hanging out in "Romeo's
Garage," Simon is working and Katie is happily making plans for the baby.
This seems to be more than Simon can take, and he goes inside the apartment.
Henry walks into the garage, saying, "My, my! You're looking awfully svelte
for a bride who's ... how many months unpregnant are you now? I forget."
Katie is not happy to see him and says, "Henry, what are you doing
here?!" "I was counting down the days to your un-due date. Hey, how
are you planning on faking the labor, and the breast-feeding, and let's not
forget the little infant itself?" Katie tells Henry to shut up, explaining
that Simon is right in the next room. She asks him to leave. "Katie,
believe me, there's nothing I'd like better than to get as far away from this
one horse town as possible, but the funds are a little tight for airfare right
now." Katie tells him to put it on his gold card and get out. Henry replies
that he's maxed out. Katie asks how that is possible since he's working at the
Intruder. "Not any more," says Henry. "Fired, again?" asks
Katie, amused. "That's funny. So I said to myself, 'Who can I turn to for
support, now that I don't have a job, I don't have any more money.'" Katie
interrupts,"Yeah, and you're out of luck tonight because my shoulder is
closed." Henry goes on with his story, "Then I said, 'I know, I'll go
to my little friend Katie, the little girl I got pregnant.' Oh wait, I have to
correct myself. Your imagination got you pregnant, I just helped keep the dream
alive." Katie again tells him to shut up, but agrees to help him. She
offers to call Craig and ask him to give Henry his job back. But this is not
what Henry wants, "Hey, hey, hey! I do not, I do not want a job
recommendation to Craig Montgomery, all right? He's the reason I'm getting out
of Dodge in the first place." "Then
what do you want from me, Henry?" asks Katie. "Money," responds
Henry, "Cold, hard cash, Katie, every cent you've got." Katie can't
believe that he's asking her for money. Henry reminds her that she owes him,
"Look, when you needed a song to sing to your little Aussie in there I
composed a pregnant concerto. Now, Katie, it is time to cough up a few
royalties." "Wait, hold on, rewind Henry. You're running from Craig?
What could you have possibly done to make my brother so mad at you?" Henry
explains that it was just a misunderstanding that was blown out of proportion.
He doesn't want to talk about it, he just wants airfare. Katie asks where to,
and Henry says, "To someplace that says 'fresh new start,' all right? What
do you even care, just give me five or six hundred." "Look around this
place, Henry, I'm married to a mechanic, we can barely make ends meet as it
is." "Come on, I am not buying that. Your brother is one of the
richest guys in town, Katie. He's not going to let his little sister go a day
without a fresh new manicure." Katie disagrees. She tells him that Craig
has written her off and wouldn't even give her a food stamp, much less money for
airfare. She tells him to cash in his 401k or IRA. Henry says that that takes
time, which he doesn't have. He's been living paycheck to paycheck and now he
doesn't have any more paychecks. He needs cash tonight. Katie is getting frustrated, "You can't bleed a stone,
Henry, all right?" "No, you're right, Katie. I can't. But I can
threaten one. So if you don't come through with some cash pronto, I'm going to
expose this little mama drama to your clueless hubby in there." Katie
protests, saying she now has everything she's ever wanted. "My life is
riding on this." "Well my life is riding on a 747 window seat as far
away from this town as I can get. Now you owe me, remember those 500 smackers I
gave you in the doctor's office?" As
he's talking Simon walks into the room unnoticed. Katie tells Henry that the
money is gone, and she'd love to pay him back but she hasn't worked in months.
"You wouldn't have found Dr. Quackenbush in Peoria if it wasn't for
me." This triggers something in Simon and he remembers the woman he met at
the doctor's office. He walks in and asks, "So, Katie, you wanna introduce
me to your friend?" Katie reminds Simon that he knows Henry, that they worked
at WOAK together. Simon remembers that they left at the same time. Katie brushes
off this reference to her bad deeds with Henry and says he's on to bigger and
better things now. Simon notices that it's late for a visit, and asks what
brought Henry there at this time of the night. Katie says he was just leaving,
he just came back to ... Henry steps in and explains that he came by to offer
Katie a job. "Yes, Henry was always my biggest fan." "Yes, very
true. You know, we have a small but very loyal mutual admiration society."
Katie tells Henry she's sorry he can't stay but it was good to see him. They
walk towards the door and Henry whispers, "I'm serious, Katie, if you do
not come through with that money I will not be so restrained." Katie offers
him a few dollars from her purse, it's all that she has right now. Henry is not
happy, "What is this? I need airfare, not cab fair to the bus station. Come
on!" Katie tells him that she'll think of something and call him later.
Loud enough for Simon to hear she says, "Bye-bye Henry, it was good to see
you again. Good night." After Henry leaves, Simon begins to question Katie. He tells her that he saw her give Henry money. Katie says that Henry was embarrassed and had no where else to go for money. Simon wonders why Henry would think Katie would help him, and speculates that maybe Henry thinks she owes him. Katie pretends to not know what he's talking about, but Simon says he learned to "never forget a face, even if the last time that you saw it it was wearing lipstick." He says that he knows the woman they ran into at the doctor's office was Henry in disguise. He must know something about Katie, "Maybe he knows that you're about as pregnant as I am." He accuses her of faking the whole pregnancy. Cornered, Katie grabs her coat and runs out.
