Friday, February 28, 2003 On today's show, Simon has a final showdown with his old pal Bartleby, and Bart ends up dead. Simon knows he has to leave town now and calls Henry to help him. Henry is waiting in his car when Simon gets in the passenger side. Staring straight ahead, Henry complains, "Nicole Kidman without the nose. Coulda been her twin. I was this close to paradise, Simon. Boy, the auburn gates were flown wide open. And then you have to call me and..." Henry looks at Simon. "Is that mud on you? I just had this baby detailed." "I killed him, says Simon stoically. "My heart is in pieces," continues Henry, not hearing. "Miss auburn is booked until next Thursday." It suddenly dawns on him what Simon said and he looks at him again, asking, "What is that on your face, is that blood on your face?" Simon says he had to protect Katie, and Henry realizes that he's serious. Simon tells Henry he doesn't have much time, people are going to be coming after him, he needs to get out of town. "No. No, no, no. No, no, I'm not hiding another body," protests Henry. Simon says he's already buried him. Henry asks Simon why he needs him then. "I need you to give this to Katie," says Simon, pulling a letter out of his pocket. "When she's completely over me, a year from now, you be the judge of when the time is right." "That's the 'dear Katie, I've always loved you' letter?" asks Henry. "Yes. Look, I know it's cruel, but otherwise, she will come after me. They will kill her. You've got to give it to her," begs Simon. "No, Simon, what is cruel is you trying to convince her that you weren't such a bad guy after all," accuses Henry. "I love her more than anything," says Simon with a catch in his voice. Henry hesitates, then takes the letter, saying, "We're both gonna regret this." Simon thanks him and starts to get out of the car. Henry asks him where he's going. "I need one last look," says a heart-broken Simon. Today’s episode was directed by Chris Goutman and written by Elizabeth Page.
