In today’s show Henry is hanging out at Java Underground
when Lily and Rose show up, providing him with the perfect opportunity to taunt
Katie. Later, he goes to the garage
and gives her some news about Simon.
Rose walks into Java Underground and asks Isaac if Simon is
working tonight. He says yes, and
Rose walks to a table, passing Henry sitting at the bar. Lily comes in and joins Rose at the table, and Henry looks
amused. He pulls out his
cell phone
and calls Katie. “Hello gumdrop,
I’m just checking in to see if you have any late-breaking news for your Uncle
Henry.” Katie replies that she
hasn’t had a chance to ask Craig for the letter of recommendation, but she
would have more incentive if Henry gave her the info on Simon that he promised
to get. Henry tells her
that he has
some leads, but “you can’t expect me to continue without any financial
encouragement.” Katie asks what
those leads are and Henry replies, “Maybe later.
But I have some late-breaking news for you. Oh, I wish I could break this to you gently, I really do.
But no such luck. Lily Snyder is back in town.”
“How do you know?” asks Katie. “A
little birdie told me, tweet tweet!”
“Katie, Katie, married lady, relax!
You’ve got to learn to calm down, or you won’t be able to appreciate
the finer things in life.” Katie insists that Henry tell her what his leads are.
Simon walks through the garage on his way to J.U.
Katie tells him to tell Isaac hi for her, and he replies, “Why don’t
you tell him yourself when you come and check up on me!”
Katie protests that she wasn’t going to check up on him, then continues
talking to Henry. “Listen, Henry,
I know how much you love to torture me, but just this once give me a break. If you have any information that can help me save my
marriage, cough it up!” Henry
just makes a coughing noise, laughs, and hangs up the phone. He continues to observe Rose and Lily at J.U.
Katie is seen outside the garage taking out the garbage.
Rose walks up and they go inside, after Katie slams the door in Rose’s
face. Rose says she came over to do Katie a favor, she wanted to
tell her that Lily is back in town, and she’s at J.U. with Simon right at that
very minute. Katie is not very
appreciative. “You want to do me
a favor, Rose? All right, the day
that you try to convince Holden that a carbon copy is better than the original,
why don’t you let me be there. Let
me be a fly on the wall.” Rose
replies, “Too late, the deed’s already been done.
And you gotta be very careful. Flies,
they must be very careful because they get squashed!” “You‘re just jealous because I have the husband of my
dreams and you don’t,” says Katie. Rose
replies, “I know something about dreams, I know they can evaporate in a
moment’s notice. What’s that
sound? Oh, that’s the reality
train and its name is Lily. Catch
it! Choo choo!”
Rose leaves the garage and Henry pops out of the car
saying, “I heard everything!” Katie
jumps and asks what he’s doing in there, she’s been waiting
all night for
him to call her back. “Oh but
gumdrop, you hung up on Uncle Henry. So
I decided to come down here and deliver the good news in person.”
Katie tells him it’s too late, Rose beat him to it.
Not that good news, says Henry, “the other good news, about Mr. Simon
Frasier. Let’s see, born February
1, Aquarian, 1973,on a family sheep farm in Waga Waga.
I’m serious! Waga Waga,
Australia, it’s a real town. The
only son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Frasier. One
sibling, Celia.” Henry makes a
gagging noise and draws his finger across his throat.
“He attended the Prince Albert Academy for Boys.”
Katie impatiently tells Henry that she knows all of that.
“You know about his various jobs?
He was a fire fighter in New Zealand, a construction worker in Sudan.”
Yes, says Katie, she knows that. “It
seems our boy has put more spin on his life than a bad D.J. He claims to have gotten a degree in architecture from the
University of Melbourne, when in fact he studied agriculture at Charles Stewart
U in Waga Waga but didn’t graduate.” “Fascinating,”
says Katie, still not impressed. “All
right, Miss Know-it-all, I was saving the best for last but if I’m boring
you…” Katie apologizes and
tells him to keep going. “Well, via the Internet I got in touch with some of
Simon’s old mates, sheep ranchers, mainly, who still
live in scenic Waga-land.
Anyway, they hadn’t heard from their bobby dazzler in a couple of years
so they were happy to hear that he was still alive and doing relatively well.
Anyway amidst the usual rousing tales of camaraderie one little tidbit
stuck out like a piece of sirloin in a beggar’s stew.”
“What?” asks Katie. “The
year that Simon spent in the States before he came to Oakdale is a complete
mystery. Nobody one knows where he
was or who he was with. But before
Simon left he told his buddies something very interesting. He said he might be getting married.”
“Just because Simon told a bunch of drunken sheep farmers
that he might getting married doesn’t mean he actually did,” protests Katie.
Henry observes, “Well gosh, that would make him a lying, thieving,
reckless driving, illegal alien bigamist, Ole!”
Katie defends her husband, saying, “Shut up Henry, you can’t call him
names until you know that he deserves them.”
Henry says he’ll look
into who the woman is and if he really got
married. But he wants Katie to do one thing, “Ask Simon, huh?
It won’t cost you a cent and then you can save us both a lot of time
and trouble.” Katie says that
would be the stupidest thing she could do, if Simon knows they’re suspicious
he’ll be on guard. Katie,
desperate again, insists that it’s crucial she find out why Simon is staying
in the US. “If it’s not Lily,
and it’s not me, it must be this so-called wife.
You can’t let me down now, Henry, I have to find out!”
