Thursday, May 13, 2004 Katie is sitting in the common room of Deerbrook Hospital when Henry is wheeled in. It appears he's been drugged. "Henry! Henry? What's the matter with you?" she asks as he doesn't respond. "Hey! Hey, hey, it's me. Do you know who I am?" she asks. "Bubb - bubb - bub-bles?" he stammers. "Oh, my God, Henry, what have they done to you?!" worries Katie. "Here, here. Just take a little sip of this coffee," says Katie, trying to get him to drink it. He dribbles it down his shirt and Katie pleads, "Henry, come on. Come on, please. What's going on? Wake up!" She reaches out her arm to slap him and Henry grabs it, saying, "Whoa, take it down a notch, will you? Would you cut out the violence there, bubbles?" Katie realizes he was faking it and Henry laughs. "Do you know how long I have to keep those little yellow pills under my tongue before I could spit them into my mashed potatoes?" "You scared me half to death," says Katie. "Well, I had to do something. Sitting around here in your pjs, hmm? You look like the sole survivor of some slumber party slasher movie. You were going under for the last time there, sweetheart," says Henry. "Well, sometimes you have to realize when you've lost, Henry," says Katie forlornly. "What do you mean lost? Lost to Pilar -- 'I'm just a little innocent little waif that happens to have the hots for Mike my old pal' Domingo? Come on. You're the gal that walks through fire. You can do anything. So, I am sorry if I gave you a teensy-weensy little bit of a scare there. I'm sorry if I did that, but if you look in the one-way security mirror, I think you'll see the old fire back in your eyes," encourages Henry. "Only because I want to murder you," says Katie. "That's it. That's my girl. Welcome back, bubbles," says Henry happily. "Listen, every minute that you waste weaving baskets in here, Cruella de Ville is working her wiles on Mike," says Henry. "Well, yeah, let her, Henry. She won. I'm stuck in here. And she's out there. And Mike's out there with her," mourns Katie. "She did not win! Okay? Maybe she was genius enough to make the rest of the world think that you're nuts, but we can still fight back! Especially now that you have the fight back in you again," says Henry. "No, it doesn't matter anymore. Mike stopped believing in me. I lost his trust in me. And that's a thousand times worse than being stuck in this place. Everything I did played into Pilar's hands. Every time I tried to expose her, I ended up looking crazier," says Katie. Henry says she needs to start over by calling Mike. She refuses and Henry says, "Yes! Yes, you call him. No warnings about Pilar, or anything like that. Just tell him you're lonely, all right, he'll come down here, and he'll see you. He'll see you in this place. And then he'll remember that he's crazy too. He's crazy about you. And without even trying, you'll have saved his life," plans Henry. Katie tells him he's a dreamer. "See, good, okay. I knew you were going reject Plan A, so while you were out here moping around, I was in hydrotherapy devising Plan B," says Henry. Katie asks if there's a spa at the hospital, and Henry responds, "No, no. It's more like a torture chamber, but it does focus the mind." Katie asks about Plan B, and Henry says, "He's currently languishing in the Oakdale's jail." "Oh, Pilar's little wimpy sidekick?" asks Katie. "Yes, Mr. Russell Terry! He worked with her. She has some kind of plan for Mike. He must know what it is," says Henry. Katie wonders why he would help them. "Hello? Pilar's got him sitting up in the hoosegow, right now - while she's off enjoying herself at Chez Mike. Do you think he's happy about that? No. Besides, he's the biggest wuss on the planet. All we have to do is bribe him. We'll work on his resentments. Get him to expose her," explains Henry. "Right. Okay. But how do we get out of here? Look around you, Henry. All the big locks on all the doors - they're not to keep people out, they're to keep us in," Katie points out. "Right, right, right. Okay, I'm working on that," says Henry. "It's not vacation, Henry, I can't just walk out of here. I've been committed," says Katie. "Well, I haven't. I checked myself in, I can check myself out," says Henry confidently. "And just waltz into a jail and bribe Pilar's accomplice?" asks Katie. "Mm-hmm. I'll make Russ sing like the feathered fowl he is," says Henry. He goes up to a large guard/orderly and says, "Excusez-moi." "Oui?" he appropriately responds. Henry says he's ready to check out and asks for the bill. "Whatever you say, pal," says the orderly as he goes off to get the nurse. "You see? No problem," says Henry. Katie asks how he's going to get the money for the bribe. "Ah, well, I can still get some cash for my car, I guess. What, bubbles - what? You hate the Martini Mobile," jokes Henry. "I just can't believe everything you've done for me," says Katie sincerely. "It's nothing," says Henry, embarrassed. "It's not nothing. You believe in me when no one else does anymore. I don't get that," says Katie. "What's to get? You know, you're a peach," says Henry lightly. "Yeah, but you're not. You lie and cheat, and you're petty and deceitful," says Katie. "Yeah, okay, nothing warms the heart like the admiration of a friend," says Henry sarcastically. "But that's just the thing. You are a friend. You're my best, most devoted friend. And how did that happen? How come you're so willing to scale mountaintops for me - and sacrifice your freedom?" asks Katie. "You know, don't make me say it, okay? We've got a good thing going here. Let's not, you know, ruin it by embarrassing displays," says Henry, trying to avoid the conversation. He's saved by the appearance of Nurse Rockwell. "Ah, hello. The service here has been excellent. My kudos to the staff. You know, I'm feeling much better, now. So much so that I think I'm ready to go home," pronounces Henry. The nurse tells him that's not possible. "But I signed myself in," protests Henry. "And in you are, Mr.. Coleman. You're in until your doctors say otherwise. And frankly, you're far from cured," says Nurse Rockwell. "You see, Nurse Rockwell, I was never really bonkers in the first place. All right? I only pretended to be so that I could stay here with my friend," explains Henry. "I understand. Many of the patients here find themselves in the same position," says Nurse Rockwell. "They sign themselves in a moment of clarity. And then, when their psychosis reasserts itself, they no longer appreciate the benefits that we provide for them," she explains. "Okay, yeah, but I'm not crazy, really," says Henry. "At the risk of seeming cliche - that is what they all say," says the nurse. "Yeah - but I'm not!" insists Henry. "Fortunately, at Deerbrook, we have systems in place so we can support our patients during their highs and lows," says Nurse Rockwell. "And we'll continue the good care for you for the remaining 29 days of your 30-day commitment," she adds. She walks away and Katie asks, "What are we gonna to do? You are the only other person in the world who understands how much trouble Mike is in, and now you're just as helpless as I am!" Henry tells her she'll have to call Mike. "Just get him on the phone - what do I have to say? Just give him a call - get a phone and get him down here," says Henry. Katie asks what she should say, and Henry says, "I don't know - say whatever you have to say. Talk to him like you never talked to him before. But you have to get him here," insists Henry. The orderly calls lights out, and Henry tells Katie to meet him back there later. "I don't know if it's such a good idea to call Mike. I mean, maybe we should just focus on seeing Russ," says Katie nervously. The orderly is ushering Henry to the door and he calls out, "Okay, remember - you get more flies with honey, Katie. Everyone knows that. Whoa! Watch where you're touching there," he says to the orderly. Katie picks up the phone and says, "Yes, this is Nurse Rockwell. I'm going to need an outside line, please?" Outside the common room Henry watches the big orderly leave. He sneaks into the room and is startled to find Katie there already. He asks her if she called Mike and she says, "Yes, I got his voicemail instead. He's probably with Pilar, and I feel like a big idiot. I don't know why I'm doing this. He doesn't love me anymore. He's not going to come down here. We're sunk. He's sunk." "Okay, listen - listen - don't despair, yet. All right? Maybe when he hears your voice, he'll come riding to the rescue after all," encourages Henry. "And if he doesn't, Pilar does him in," says Katie. "Well, then we go back to Plan B with our old friend Russ. If I can only figure a way to get the hell out of here," says Henry. "Oh! I learned some very interesting things from the knitting lady. Apparently this place isn't as secure as it seems and a lot of people have broken out," says Katie. Henry asks how and Katie says she doesn't know, they'll have to start looking. Nurse Rockwell and the orderly find Katie and Henry in the common room and the nurse orders, "Back to your rooms, both of you. We're going to have to keep these two separated." The nurse takes Katie and the orderly takes Henry and they lead them in opposite directions. "Don't give up. We have to get to Russ before Pilar can do anything to Mike. Okay?" calls Katie. "Okay, Katie?" calls Henry. "Okay -- we'll do it!" says Katie. Today’s episode was directed by Michael Eilbaum and written by Judy Tate.
