Tuesday, May 23, 2006 Henry and Emily discover that Paul didn't give Emily the papers to relinquish his rights to their child, most likely because he has changed his mind. A fact that Meg does not know, until Henry goes over to Paul's to share it with her. Today’s episode was directed by Michael Eilbaum and written by Josh Griffith.
Transcripts from TVMegasite Emily: What do you mean, "we'll stop Paul?" You mean you and me, together? Henry: Yeah, that's what I mean. Emily: You're offering to help me? Henry: That I am. Emily: The police have your money, you know that. I mean, I have no control over what happens to your money. Henry: Emily, will you -- shh, I'm not talking about the money. Emily: So, what, you're doing this out of the goodness of your heart? Henry: Yeah, I'm doing it out of the goodness -- is that so hard for you to believe? Emily: Actually, no. Now that I know you actually have a heart. Henry: Oh, that's funny. I got it in Oz, from the Wizard. I wish he'd given me a brain a brain. Emily: No, I'm the one in need of that, thanks. Henry: No, no -- just a momentary lapse of reasoning, that's all. Emily: I'm gonna get better, you know that? Henry: I do, and I'm gonna help you. Because I am not just a fair-weather friend. I'm there on rainy days, too. So, let's see, first thing on the agenda -- let's figure out why Paul did not sign those papers. Emily: I already know why. He wants in on his child's life. I'm telling you, all it took was one look at that sonogram picture, and his daddy instincts kicked on in. Henry: Daddy instincts -- I have a hard time picturing Paul with even a single paternal gene in his entire body. Be that as it may, let's say he wants to take a shot at fatherhood, I have a feeling that Meg is gonna do everything she can to stop him. Emily: You do? Henry: Yeah, I do. They're just -- look, they're just starting off. If I were the new girlfriend, I wouldn't want to be saddled with your baby. No offense. Emily: You know what, maybe you're right. Maybe Meg was the one who pushed Paul into drawing up those papers. Henry: Which means she doesn't know that he is chickening out. So, when she finds out, there's going to be hell to pay.
[ Knock at the door ] Henry: Paul? Paul, are you in there? Meg: Is that Henry? Paul: Yeah, just ignore him. He'll probably go away. Meg: Whoa, whoa, wait. What's he doing here, anyway? Paul: I have no idea. [ Knock at the door ] Henry: Paul, if you're in there, open up. It's very important. I think you know what I mean. Meg: He doesn't seem to be going away. Paul: All right. I'll get rid of him. What do you want? Henry: What do you think, Paul? My bad. Seem to be interrupting something, here. Hey, don't mind me. I'll just wait until you're finished.
Paul: Henry, why are you here? Meg: If you're here to pick up something of Emily's, her mother's already picked the place clean. Henry: No, no, no. I'm here to pick up something of Paul's, that he neglected to give to Emily in the hospital. I'm sure that was just an oversight. Paul: There's nothing here that Emily needs. Now gulp your drink down and get lost. Henry: Gulp? Paul, my goodness. You don't gulp down a martini, you take your time with it. Time is something that I happen to have plenty of, as much time as you -- Meg: What are you talking about, Henry? Henry: You haven't told her? Why doesn't that surprise me? Meg: Told me what? Paul: Henry, get out of here. Henry: Not without the relinquishment papers. They're as important to Emily as much as the divorce papers were important to you. Meg: You said Emily signed everything that needed to be signed, Paul. What's going on? Henry: What's going on is that Paul is having second thoughts about turning his back on his little baby.
Meg: What's going on, Paul? Paul: I never said that Emily signed the relinquishment papers. I just only mentioned the divorce papers. Meg: You knew I was talking about both when I asked you! Paul -- Paul: I can explain. Meg: You know what? Forget about it! Henry: Man, that is one ticked off woman. Paul: Henry, finish your drink. Henry: Well, thank you. Whoa, hey, Paul, aren't you forgetting something? She needs those papers, like, yesterday, okay? [ Door slams ]
Emily: Where have you been? I've been worried sick. Did you -- Henry: Ow. Emily: Henry, did you talk to Paul? Henry: Yeah, I -- yeah, yeah, I talked to him. Right before he threw me out on my wounded dignity. Anyway, the point is, now he knows that you're onto him about the relinquishment papers. Emily: Is he going to bring them to me to sign? Henry: Well, I'm sure that Meg is trying to convince him to do that. Right now, I suspect torture's involved. Emily: My god, she was there? Henry: Yeah, she was there, all right. She was not a happy camper at all. I can't believe he didn't tell her he wasn't going to sign the papers! I mean, when she found out, she was furious, Em. Emily: Paul's got to make a choice. Henry: Yeah, yeah. Get rid of the baby and keep little miss Meg happy. Emily: He's gonna have to give up everything to stay connected to the baby. Henry: Well, my money's on Meg. Emily: Oh, god, I cannot believe I'm gonna say this, but I hope you are right. I hope you're right. Nurse #3: Dr. Goldberg, please report to station five. Emily: Henry, that's you. Henry: Who's me? Emily: Dr. Goldberg, that's you. You have to go. Henry: Ooh, right, yeah. Better get out of here before someone finds me. Are you gonna be okay? Emily: No, no. Hurry back, please. Go, go, go! Henry: Yeah, I'll be back. I'll be back real soon. Emily: Bye.
