Monday, June 28, 2004 Pilar is dead, Katie is at the cottage confronting Simon about the fact that he hired Pilar to come between Mike and Katie, and Henry is consoling Mike at the scene of the crime. Mike is at the boathouse, remembering Katie. Henry comes in and asks, "You up for some company?" Mike explains that they took Pilar's body to the morgue. "Margo took my statement, and the M.E. examined the body. It was pretty clear Pilar fell on her own knife, so they're not gonna press charges against Katie. She was only defending herself," he says. "Good. She -- she's pretty shaken up about it. You don't look much better," observes Henry. "I can't think of another time in my life when I screwed up so bad," says Mike. "What, excuse me? Screwed up? Mike, what are -- you saved Katie tonight. If you hadn't known where Pilar was probably gonna take her..." says Henry. "Pilar wouldn't have been anywhere near Katie if it hadn't been for me. I'm the whole reason this thing spiraled out of control," says Mike. "Oh, come on, man. You cannot blame yourself," urges Henry. "I do, and I am glad that Katie has Simon. She deserves someone who won't let her down," says Mike sadly. "When I woke up this morning, I found Pilar staring at me. I knew, Henry. I could look in her eyes and see something wasn't right," says Mike. "Well, look, if you're gonna make that argument, I'm as much to blame as anyone. I mean, the last time I saw her, she was acting very, very strange. And did I do anything? No. Realistically, what could we have done?" asks Henry. "I could have believed her when I had the chance," says Mike. "Man, you look guilt in the eye and don't flinch," says Henry. "I know what I did, and I know what I failed to do. All I can do now is just hope that Simon, when he gets Katie back feeling happy and safe again, that she'll forgive me," says Mike. "Is it exhausting being noble?" wonders Henry. "I wouldn't know. But I'll see you around, all right? Is this Katie’s bracelet?" says Mike, picking it up off the floor. "Yeah, I guess -- I guess holding onto your jewelry when you're fighting for your life isn't as easy as it looks," jokes Henry. Mike tells Henry he should take it back to her, but Henry says, "Uh, no. You know, I've had a long day, and yes, that's a martini calling me, so why don't you -- why don't you just hold onto it?" says Henry slyly. "Why don't you take it to her, and you'll find out for a fact that she doesn't hate you." Mike knocks at the cottage door and Simon answers. He asks to see Katie but Simon lies that she's already asleep upstairs. Mike shows him the bracelet and Simon assures him he'll give it to Katie. Mike protests that he'd like to give it to her himself, but Simon again says Katie cannot be disturbed. Mike hands Simon the bracelet and asks him to tell Katie he's sorry he didn't believe her about Pilar. Simon slams the door. Henry is waiting outside and asks Mike how Katie is. Mike says he doesn't know, Simon wouldn't let him see her. "You want me to talk to her?" offers Henry. "What are you gonna say to her? I mean, I screwed up the girl's life. I put her through hell. She's done with me. And you know what? I don't blame her," says Mike. Today’s episode was directed by John O'Connell and written by Meg Kelly.
