Wednesday, July 23, 2003 After months of pretending she's OK, Katie breaks down and admits that she doesn't think she'll ever get over Simon. Fortunately Mike and Henry are there to pick up the pieces. Katie is asleep on the couch at the cottage after a night of drinking wine and crying over Simon. Henry walks in wearing a brightly colored shirt and smoking a cigar. "Bubbles, I'm home," he calls cheerily. "Henry?" says Katie, waking up. "Yep. In the oh-so-sordid flesh," answers Henry. Katie asks where he's been and tells him to turn off the light. "You heard her, God," says Henry, shutting the door on the sunlight. "I left you a note." "Oh, yeah. 'Got a big tip. See you soon,'" remembers Katie. "Vegas, baby. Vegas. I was so money. Twenty grand. Do you know what that means? You know what that means?" asks Henry as he walks around the room. "Big ticket items, sweetheart. I'm thinking about a new stereo system right over here. Maybe a little bit of a wide screen TV that - what is this?" He trips over something and picks it up. Katie suggests he use his winnings to pay the rent and utility bills. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Sure, I'll do all of that," agrees Henry. He reads the title of the book he tripped over. "'Gourmet made easy.' Apparently not easy enough. Who cares? Listen, put some makeup on that little pasty face of yours. I'm gonna take you out to the Lakeview for the biggest breakfast you ever had in your life," says Henry generously, putting an arm around her. "I'm talking one-eyed sailors and sausage and bacon and muffins and all kinds of ... " Katie pushes him away and begs him not to talk about food. "What? What is this? Another hunger strike?" asks Henry, sitting down next to her on the couch. "Sweetheart, the last one you did sent you into the hospital. Remember that? Of course, that was hard times. You know, your hubby was leaving. But you're over that now, right? What's wrong?" he asks as she begins to cry. "I'm never, ever, ever gonna get over Simon," says Katie. Katie is sitting on the couch looking at a picture of her and Simon at their wedding when Henry brings her a cup of coffee. Katie apologizes for crying. Henry asks her what that was about, since she seemed fine when he left for Vegas. He asks her what the setback was. "There wasn't one. I'd just deluded myself and everyone else into thinking that I was moving on," says Katie. Henry tells her she was moving on, she put away all of Simon's pictures. "That's because I couldn't handle looking at them," explains Katie as she puts the picture face down. "Every time the phone rings, I think it might be Simon, calling to tell me that this whole nightmare is over. Oh, God, Henry, I miss him so much," she says, crying again. Henry hugs her and tries to comfort her, saying, "I know. Hey, come here. It's gonna get better, sweetie." Katie pushes him away and says, "No, it's not! Oh! Every time I hear his name or a song that he loved, I - the reality just hits me smack in the face again. My husband left me. Nobody does that to someone unless they ... " "Unless they what?" asks Henry. "Hate them," answers Katie pitifully. "No, listen, Katie, Simon did not hate you, okay? Definitely not. I mean - yeah, you know, how could he? How could he? Look at you. You're - you're adorable, you're beautiful. Any guy would give his eye teeth to have you for his wife," Henry says tenderly. Katie says she doesn't want any guy, she can't handle another relationship right now. "Well, what about Mike 'the man' Kasnoff?" asks Henry. Katie explains that he's just a friend. He's been very helpful to her though all of this and she's grateful. "Yeah? Really? Has he been a pet rock?" asks Henry doubtfully. "No! I'm not blind, all right? I mean, I see his dimples and the way his eyes have that sexy gleam and that cute little - but I'm not interested, okay?" she insists. "Yeah. What about him, Katie? Does he see the sexy gleam in your eyes?" wonders Henry, "Or the cute little dimples in your ... " Katie says she doesn't know and she's not going to ask him. Henry asks why not, and Katie answers, "Because I thought Simon loved me, and I was wrong. I'm not gonna be that stupid twice in one lifetime." "Katie, listen to me. You can't drop out of life just because one man hurt you," says Henry. "Simon did not just hurt me. He showed me that I'm a terrible judge of men. I mean, I used to think that I knew when people were lying to me. But I was sucker-punched by my own husband," says Katie. Henry tells her she wasn't. "Yes, I was! I was a complete idiot! People warned me about him, you know? And I just didn't listen. I thought deep down in him there's a good person. I was so stupid. He used to look in my eyes and hold me and tell me that he loved me. And I thought that he was actually telling me the truth," says Katie sadly. "Do you know what it's like to wake up in the morning and reach over for someone who's not there? And to realize all over again that he's probably been with ten different women since he left?" Unable to stand it any longer, Henry tells Katie that Simon loved her more than she'll ever know. Suspicious, Katie asks, "Do you know something? You know something, Henry Coleman, and you're gonna tell me what it is!" Katie begs Henry to tell her what he knows about Simon. Henry insists he doesn't know anything, she's jumping to conclusions. Knowing she'll never get anywhere that way, Katie picks up the phone and asks for the number for the Nevada State Gambling Commission. "I'm sure they'd be very interested in hearing about your hot tip," she says. Giving in, Henry says, "Yeah, all right, listen, Katie, all right, okay, listen, I'll tell you everything you want to know. Just hang up the phone, okay? Thank you. I - I have something that may answer all your questions." Katie asks what it is and Henry says it's something Simon left for her. Katie again asks what it is and Henry says it's in safekeeping, he has to go get it. "Okay, then, go!" says Katie excitedly. "Okay, all right," says Henry reluctantly. "Go, go right now!" insists Katie. "You don't have to hit me like that. I'll go," whines Henry. "Please, just hurry. And you'd better come back, or the Nevada gambling commission's gonna get and earful" threatens Katie. "Simon didn't just leave me. Maybe he doesn't hate me." Meanwhile in Milltown, Mike asks Jack to help him find Simon. Jack refuses and Mike guesses that he knows where Simon is. Mike convinces him that if Carly were still missing, he'd do everything he could to find her. Jack reluctantly agrees to ask Margo if they can reopen the investigation. Mike goes to the cottage to tell Katie the good news. Jack and Margo confess to Tom (the new D.A.) that they misidentified Bartleby Shears' body as a John Doe because they didn't want to hurt Katie. Tom agrees to look past that if they reopen the case now. Jack tells Margo they'll have to issue a warrant for Simon's arrest, which Katie will not like. Today’s episode was directed by Steven Williford and written by Meg Kelly.
