Tuesday, October 14, 2003 On today's show, Henry and his old pal Katie get involved in another scheme. But this one's a little more serious than looking for a lost diamond at the bottom of the ocean. They're attempting to cover up a hit and run. Mike is in the hospital, the victim of a hit and run. Katie has recently discovered that she's the one who did it, although she was on medications and out of it at the time. On Margo's orders, Carly has brought her home to the cottage. Katie feels the need to tell Mike what she did, and asks Carly for advice on how to get someone to forgive you for doing something really horrible and then lying about it. Carly suggests she just tell Mike the truth as soon as he's recovered. Henry comes home to find Katie and Carly talking. "What? A party in my own home and no one invited moi?" asks Henry. "Where's Margo?" He tells Katie he saw Margo's car outside. Katie asks how he knows it's Margo's, and Henry says he knows every cop car in Oakdale. He sees Carly and asks about his new buddy Sage. Carly tells him she's fine, she's with Emma, but she misses him. "Mike Kasnoff was hit by a car," Katie blurts out. Carly explains he's in the hospital, it was a hit and run. "Oh my God, is he going to be all right?" asks Henry. Carly says they were taking him into surgery when they left. Henry notices that Katie is still very upset. "Katie, Sweetie, I'm so sorry. Why didn't you call me?" he asks. Katie explains that Carly was there and offered to bring her home, and now he's here. Carly goes home to relieve Emma, promising to call if she hears anything. "What kind of person runs a man down and then just drives off and leaves him?" wonders Henry. "Can we please not talk about it?" asks Katie. Henry assures her that the police are going to find whoever did this. There are tire tracks, witnesses... Katie stops him, obviously not comforted by this news. "If I swear you to secrecy, will you promise never to reveal what I told you, what I showed you?" asks Katie. Henry hesitates, and Katie begs, "You've gotta promise, please!" "All right, if it means that much to you," agrees Henry. Katie leads him outside, and Henry follows, worried. Katie and Henry are outside by Margo's car. "Is this what you wanted to show me, Margo's car?" asks Henry. "What, is she in the trunk?" Katie tells him to look at the front. Seeing the dent, Henry says, "Woah! What did you do, sweetheart, hit a tree?" "It was a person," says Katie. "A Mike person?" asks Henry. "I didn't mean to!" cries Katie. "And then you fled the scene?" asks Henry, holding his head in his hand. Katie explains that she didn't even know what happened until she got back to the house. Chris found her passed out on the couch, and then the hospital called and told her about the accident, and then she started remembering. "Oh God, Henry!" she cries as she realizes what she's done. She says that she went to the hospital and tried to tell Mike, but he was just lying there helpless, and she couldn't do it. She talked to Carly about the fact that she needed to tell Mike something, and she advised her to tell him right away. "No, listen to me, Kathryn, listen to me very closely," says Henry, holding her face in his hands. "You are never going to tell anyone, ever, about what happened tonight. No one will ever know." Katie tells Henry she has to confess. "If you go to the cops and tell them you got into your car hopped up on pills, hit Mike, ran from the scene, and didn't come forward..." Katie clarifies that she is coming forward. "Sweetheart, they'll throw you in jail!" protests Henry. "It's a crime to take cars and hit people and run away, no matter how good your reasons. And you're not doing Mike any favors, you'd just lose him as a friend. And what about Margo? Have you thought about that? Do you know what it would be like for her to have to arrest you and throw the rest of her liver in jail?" asks Henry. "Yeah, but I'm guilty!" insists Katie. "No, you are not guilty, it was an accident!" Henry reassures her. Katie wonders if deep down she wanted Mike dead. She tells Henry about the dreams she's been having where she lets Mike get blown up. "I even told him to stay away from me so I wouldn't hurt him, and now I did. What if I accidentally hit him on purpose?" asks Katie, terrified. "No, babycakes! Come here," says Henry, hugging her. "You couldn't hit anyone on purpose, it's not in you. This is gonna be our secret." "But Mike deserves to know," says Katie, crying. "With any luck Mike will pull through. He may forgive you in time, but that's not gonna do you any good if you're in jail. Listen, this is for you to know, and for me to know, and no one else," says Henry very slowly and carefully. "But you're forgetting something, Henry. As soon as Margo sees that car, she's going to put two and two together," says Katie. "Not necessarily," says Henry, with that devious look in his eye. Katie calls Aaron and tells him there's an emergency, she needs him to come over right away. When he gets there Katie shows him the car and tells him she ran into a tree and doesn't want Margo to know. Aaron says he can fix it first thing in the morning. Katie goes back inside the cottage and tells Henry that Aaron agreed to fix the car. "Thank God for mechanics! If only I could find an olive, my life would be perfect!" says Henry. Katie tells Henry she doesn't think she can do this. "Wait a second, you can settle your karmic debt any way you want, but 20 years in the big house is not going to change anything," says Henry. There's a knock on the door and they both look scared. Henry goes to answer the door - it's Margo. Katie asks if she has news on Mike, but Margo says she just came by to check on her. Henry tells her she's OK, considering. Katie explains that Carly stayed with her until Henry came home, and she was just about to go upstairs to bed so she can get up early and go see Mike. Margo says she won't keep her, and turns to leave, almost running into a nervous Henry. As she's leaving Margo asks Henry to bring her car back to her in the morning, she'll need it first thing. When no one answers her Margo asks if there's a problem. "Margo, I didn't want to tell you this, but..." begins Katie. "But her car is on the fritz, and it would make things easier for her if she could hold on to yours for a day or two or four, until we can get a mechanic out here," Henry lies. Margo suggests she rent a car, and Henry says he suggested that too, but Katie would be more comfortable with Margo's car. Margo says that's OK, she can drive Casey's. "I think every mother should drive her teenager's car with the sonic sound system," jokes Margo. She tells Katie to get some sleep, and leaves. Katie again says that she doesn't think she can do this. "Yes you can!" insists Henry. "Listen, every day will get a little easier. Aaron will fix your car, tomorrow I hope. Mike will get better, and so will you." Katie asks if she can have a little time alone, and Henry kisses her on the forehead and goes up to his room. Katie gets down on her knees and prays for Mike to be OK, even if she has to be in jail forever and he never speaks to her again. Today’s episode was directed by Steven Williford and written by Elizabeth Page.
