Monday, November 2, 2009 Henry is getting checked out at the hospital. He's been having visions of Brad since he got hit in the head. Brad is using Henry to communicate with Katie. He asks Henry to go over to Katie's house and find a notebook. Henry does so, and Katie kicks him out. But she sees the notebook which contains a grade school essay about Brad's hero, Jack. So she names the baby Jacob after Jack. Henry is feeling too guilty to go to the funeral, but Maddie convinces him he should. Today’s episode was directed by Chris Goutman and written by Leslie Nipkow.
Transcripts from TVMegasite Alison: You don't have a fever. Henry: Are you sure? Maybe you should check the other ear. Alison: They're connected to the same head, Henry. Henry: Well, there's definitely something wrong with me, Alison. Alison: I believe you. I mean, you took a fall, so -- could you roll up your sleeve for me? Henry: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Alison: Have you been having any headaches lately? Henry: No. Alison: Dizziness? Henry: No. Alison: Okay. Well, what is it then, your stomach? Trouble breathing? Henry: I don't -- hallucinations. Brad: Did you just see me? Henry: Go away! Brad: Are you seeing me? Henry: Go away! Nothing! I'm just -- I'm not only seeing things, I'm hearing things, and I just want them to go away!
Alison: Okay, Henry. I am gonna go find the attending. Please just stay right here, and if you start to feel woozy, you can use this to call the nurse. Brad: Henry! Look at me! Come on, man! I know you just saw me. All right. You want to play it that way, fine. Henry: Aah! Brad: See? Come on. Was that so bad? Henry: I don't know what you're talking about. You are not really here. You are just a residual effect of an overdone hash brown mixed with a hefty dose of abject guilt. That's all. It's nothing to worry about. Brad: What happened? Why am I here? Why can't anybody else see me? Henry: Simple, really. You're a Brad-shaped figment of my imagination. You are a sub-neural hematoma pressed against the worst-nightmare center of my brain. A doctor will simply drill in there, and poof. No more boo Bradley. Brad: I'm not going anywhere. Henry: I don't hear you. I don't see you. You're not here. You're not here. You're not here. You're not here. You're not here. You're not -- aaaaah!
Henry: [Singing] I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee I'm going to Louisiana my true love for to see. Brad: Henry. Henry: Oh, Susanna, don't you cry for me! Brad: Henry, that's really annoying. [Henry continues singing] Brad: Do you want them to throw you in the psych ward? Henry: Yes, throw me in the psych ward, please, if that would make you disappear! They can throw me into the padded room and they can dose me to the gills! Brad: Do what you want, but I'm not leaving. Alison: Henry, I am so sorry. The doctor just got called in to the E.R., but he'll be here as soon as he can, okay? Henry: That's okay. Don't even worry about it. It's not a really big deal. I'm fine. Alison: Well, I'm sure you will be eventually, but for right now you need to stay here, okay? We cannot play around with a head injury. Henry: I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, you know, and it's flaring up right now, and I'm sorry to waste your time. You are great. You're a great nurse. You're a regular Flo Nightingale. I'm gonna tell the boss that. Alison: Okay, please don't go. Henry: You don't want the likes of me haunting the hospital. Alison: I'm worried about Katie. She's not spending much time with the baby. Brad: What? Henry: What do you mean, "Not much time," by -- Alison: I mean, she's barely here at all. Henry: Aren't there rules about preemies and seeing preemies? Alison: Well, it depends, but Katie's baby is doing great. I mean, she could spend all the time with him that she wants to. She was even offered a bed, you know, so she could stick close by to him, and she said no. Henry: That doesn't sound like Bubbles. Alison: She hasn't even named him yet. Henry: Look, I don't know if she'll see me, but I'll do what I can. Alison: Okay. I mean, I'll go and hold him, but it's not the same thing. He needs his mother. Brad: We're going to see Katie right now.
Henry: No, no, no! Brad: You got to do something! Katie's in trouble, Henry! Henry: I will only make matters worse! Brad: Will you stop thinking of yourself? I got to get to my wife. I don't know how, so you have to help me. Henry: Do you not understand why this happens since you -- Katie hates me! She blames me for your death! Brad: Yeah, I'm pretty ticked off about that, too, but this is an emergency. Henry: Would you listen to me, you figment, all right? I can't fix this! You're dead because I was money hungry. I lied. I cheated. I broke all Ten Commandments. I'm a rotten person, so just get back into my subconscious and haunt me the normal way! Brad: The normal way? Henry: Yes! Drive me to drink or gamble or whatever! Brad: Will you just shut up? Henry: Bradley, be gone! Oh, my God. Brad: Seriously, man, I don't like this any more than you do, but for some reason, we're linked! Henry: Linked! Brad: You're the only person that can see me, so, obviously, you're supposed to help me. Henry: Even if I believe in you, I can't help you. Katie will not talk to me! Brad: Just try. Henry: I can't face her, Brad! Brad: Will you just man up? You need proof that I'm real? Henry: You're not gonna do something scary, are you? Brad: Okay, look. I went to the farm last week and Meg was gonna give us some, like, newborn stuff of Eliza's. Okay, and I found an old school box of stuff when Jack and I were kids -- drawings, a compass, and an old notebook. I brought it home with me. I need you to find it and give it to Katie. Henry: No, no, no, no, no! Forget it! No! Brad: You can't say no to me, man! You owe me! It's the least you could do.
Henry: Katie, listen. I have -- no, no! Ow! Katie: Henry, leave! Henry: No. Not until you hear me out. Katie: No! I don't want to ever see you again, ever! Henry: Fine, fine! You can avoid me for eternity, Katie, but you cannot avoid your baby. Katie: How many times do I have to say it? I don't want you here! Henry: Listen, I won't stay long. Katie: No, you won't stay at all! I have to get to the church to bury my husband! Henry: Listen to me, listen to me. I heard you haven't been visiting the baby at the hospital. Katie: Who told you that? Henry: Is it true you have not even named him yet? Katie: That is none of your business. Henry: Maybe it's not my -- have you thought about what Brad would want? Katie: Brad would want to hold his newborn child! He would want to tuck him in at night! He would want to tell him all the dreams we had for his future! Henry: You can still have those dreams! Katie: No, I can't! Not without Brad! Henry: Listen, baby, I wish I could bring him back, Bubbles. I wish I could -- Katie: Don't -- don't you call me that ever again! I don't want you in my life! Henry: I'm sorry! I am sorry! Just for Brad's sake, please! Katie: Brad is dead and you're alive! What is so wrong with God that he got everything so messed up? Henry: It's not -- it's not God's fault, okay? It's my fault. It's all -- it's completely my fault. Katie: Well, at least we agree on something. If you don't leave now, I'm gonna call the police. Henry: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my god. I think I'm having a panic attack. Katie: Too bad! Henry: Katie, listen. Listen, all I wanted to do was help you. Please, you got to understand -- Katie: Oh, my God. Brad.
[Knock on door] Henry: Where are the Ghostbusters when you need them? Maddie: Hey, big brother. Henry: Hey, Maddie. What are you doing here? Maddie: So, are you not planning on going to the funeral? Henry: No. I can't. I couldn't. It wouldn't be right. Maddie: Henry, Brad was your friend. You're gonna regret this forever if you don't go. Henry: Honey, Katie won't even look at me. I'd only make things worse. Maddie: How could you possibly make things worse? Henry: Trust me, they can always get worse. Maddie: Henry, you can't run from this. You have to show Katie how much you care about her and the baby and how sorry you are. Henry: Look, I'm not safe to be around, okay? Maddie: I can't believe what I'm hearing. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do what you need to do. Henry: You don't understand. Maddie: Oh, no. I do understand, believe me. You messed up. But you know what? If you want to trace this back to the beginning, where it all started, it goes back to Mom, as usual. So, you know what we do? So what? We'll rise above it. Henry: Yeah, Sweetie, not this time. Maddie: Depends on whether or not you have the nerve to show your face at Brad's funeral. I will go with you. Henry: I appreciate the thought. Maddie: Henry, please. I am begging you. I know this is not gonna be easy, but if you bail on this, we'll never make this right.
Henry: I knew it. I shouldn't be here. Maddie: Henry, these people are your family. Katie loves you more than Mom ever could. Henry: A thug hitting me up for my wallet could love me more than that. So what? Maddie: If you were Katie, what would you do? Henry: I can't imagine. Poor Bubbles. Maddie: So we're staying? Henry: Yeah. As long as we don't sit in the front.
