Wednesday, December 16, 2009 Henry runs into Barbara at the police station, where she has bribed an officer to run Mick Dante's fingerprints. But she doesn't admit that to Henry. He runs into with Maddie at Al's, who has just broken up with Casey. They commiserate about their unhappy love lives and resolve that things will get better! Later, he's having a drink with Barbara when she gets a call that Mick's fingerprints are a match for James Stenbeck's! Today’s episode was directed by Jennifer Pepperman and written by Josh Griffith.
Transcripts from TVMegasite Cop: We were supposed to meet in the parking lot. Barbara: I got tired of waiting for you. It's freezing outside, and I want this done immediately. His name is Mick Dante -- at least, that's what he says. I want you to run that for prints, find out if he really is who he says he is and if he's got a record. Cop: What -- I do this out of the goodness of my heart? Barbara: I haven't forgotten our arrangement. Just don't spend it all in one place. And I look forward to hearing from you very soon. Thank you. Oh! Henry: And here I thought bribing an officer of the law was illegal.
Henry: Why are you trying to get dirt on Mick Dante? Barbara: I'm not. Paul has invested a great deal of money into his research. I just want to make sure the guy's legit. Henry: And? Barbara: And -- and -- well, what do you mean? Henry: Oh, come -- let's call a Barbara a Barbara, okay? There is the edge in your voice. There's a little twinkle in your eye. It screams of personal agenda. Barbara: Do you see a twinkle in my eye? Henry: Yes, yes. It's the twinkle of subterfuge. Barbara: Flatterer. Henry: What is your angle? Barbara: I don't have an angle. I told you, I have Paul's interests in mind. What are you doing for dinner? Henry: [Chuckles] There's something you're not telling me. Barbara: Well, a girl has to have her secrets, doesn't she? [Henry sighs]
Maddie: [Sighs] Nothing worse than good fries going cold. Henry: Eat. [Maddie sighs] Henry: You look like I feel. What's wrong? Maddie: Everything. Ever since Casey and I split up -- this is gonna sound totally lame -- but I just feel like I'm walking around here, and I don't know where I am. Henry: That's very existential of you, Maddie. You're in Oakdale. Nothing has changed. Maddie: I feel like I have, somehow. Nothing looks the same or feels the same or tastes the same. Henry: Sweetie, your heart's been broken. It's gonna take some time to heal. But trust me, your life and your taste buds will get back to normal soon, I promise. Maddie: Why are you so out of it? Henry: Vienna came back. Maddie: Really? That's fantastic. You should be happy. Henry: Yeah, and she took off again. Maddie: Oh, well, go find her. [Henry chuckles] Maddie: Remind her how much you love her and how much she loves you. Henry: Oh, it's too late. Baby, I blew it. Maddie: Oh, are you sure? Henry: Totally. Maddie: We really are a sad pair, huh? Henry: Listen, let's -- let's -- let's make a deal here. Let's make a -- let's make a fraternal pact, okay? Yeah. Maddie: Okay. Henry: All right? Let's just forget our past and move forward with our lives. There is -- there is more to life and Oakdale than Casey Hughes. And Vienna's probably gone for good, so I need to rebuild my life, too. Maddie: Okay, all right. Any prospects? Henry: No. Well, yeah, maybe. Maddie: Hmm? Henry: There's someone that may be interested in me, that's it. Maddie: Really? Who? Henry: The last person I ever would have expected, and that is all I'm going to tell you. Maddie: Fine. Don't give me any fresh material for my vlog. Henry: Vlog. Maddie: My vlog. Henry: Listen to me. Okay, I'm serious, okay? If Casey Hughes doesn't want to be with you, then he is an idiot, and he deserves what he gets.
Henry: Now's not a good time, Barbara. Barbara: Aw, Henry, what's wrong? Henry: Nothing. Barbara: Well, maybe you just need someone to talk to. I'm a good listener. Henry: Yeah, what the hell? I was just making myself a martini. You care to join me? Barbara: Well, I'd love to. I'll have a little sparkling water, though. Henry: Okay. Barbara: You know, you didn't really seem yourself earlier. Henry: Yeah, I haven't been myself since Vienna left. Barbara: I'm sorry. I know how difficult it is to lose someone you love. Any chance of you two getting back together? Henry: I don't see how. I don't know. It's like the bottom of my world just fell out. Brad dies. Katie shuns me. My mother's a murderer. [Sighs] I find out I'm the spawn of the devil. Vienna leaves me. It's just -- let's just say it's been a bad couple of months, okay? Barbara: Well, there's some good. I mean, Katie did lift the restraining order, right? And we've gotten to know each other. Henry: Yeah. As weird as it may sound, that's -- well, I'm kind of glad you came into my life. Barbara: Really? [Henry chuckles] Barbara: You see? There is a little light at the end of the tunnel. Henry: Yeah, it is a strange and disturbing light, but a light, nonetheless. [Laughter] [Cell phone rings] Yeah, you should answer that. Barbara: Yeah, yeah. Henry: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Barbara: Hello? Cop: Ms. Ryan, we got a hit on those fingerprints.
Barbara: Spare me all the percentage details. What is the bottom line? Cop: The prints belong to James Stenbeck. Henry: Something wrong? Barbara: Oh, no, no. Henry: Well, who was it? What happened? Barbara: I've got to go. I'll talk to you later, okay?
